About Evil Deeds: Burke and Hare Walking Tour

We offer historical walking tours of Edinburgh’s UNESCO Heritage Listed Old Town (Auld Toun in Scots). Our tours are tailored for small groups, with a maximum of 12 people per tour. This size allows us to offer a more personalised guiding service and answer any questions along the way.

Auld Toun Walking Tours was founded in 2018 by writer and teacher, Steve Porter. He is a screenwriter, author of political/football/travel fiction, poetry and short stories.

Steve loves a good story and enjoys creating tours that delve into Edinburgh’s history – one tour, one story, one focus. Steve was captivated by the story of Burke and Hare and created the tour Evil Deeds: Burke and Hare. Steve researched and wrote the tour over six months. The dark tale of the two serial killers reflects Edinburgh’s social history and fascination with gory headlines.

Steve studied History at the University of Edinburgh and is currently undertaking a Celtic Studies course. He guides the tours and has First Aid Training from the Red Cross (2018).
