For the first time ever, specially created memorials have been created to mark the hundreds who fell at the Battle of Prestonpans on both sides. A spectacular and colourful procession will travel through the streets of Prestonpans with participation from the British army, representatives of the clans who took part in the battle and community leaders. Come and watch the events and find out more about this critical point in British history.
The annual East Lothian Battle Weekend returns to Prestonpans.
The Battle of Prestonpans was the first significant battle in the Jacobite Rising of 1745. The Jacobite army loyal to James Francis Edward Stuart was led by his son Charles Edward Stuart (‘Bonnie Prince Charlie’) defeated the government army loyal to the Hanoverian George II led, by Sir John Cope. The victory was a huge morale boost for the Jacobites, and a heavily mythologised version of the story entered art and legend.
