Switch to Manual: Unleash the creativity of your DSLR camera

About Switch to Manual: Unleash the creativity of your DSLR camera

Release your inner creative on our Switch to Manual Introductory course for camera users run by Edinburgh photographer Richard Dyson, of the Edinburgh Photography Workshop.

Switch to Manual is an introductory workshop for camera users who tend to leave their camera set to automatic modes and therefore don’t unleash the full creativity that their DSLR or Bridge camera can deliver.

In four hours you will learn the fundamentals of exposure by exploring the use of aperture, shutter speed, ISO as well as a number of composition techniques that will take your photography to a new level.

The workshop starts in a relaxed way when you will discover what the thick manual that came with your camera should have told you. You will then head around some of the famous, and not so famous, landmarks of Edinburgh's historic and beautiful New Town so that you can put theory into practice. The workshop ends back at The Arienas Collective for a review of the images you’ve taken using your new skills, with a complimentary glass of beer or wine.

Refreshment breaks - featuring locally sourced products - are an important part of The Arienas Collective experience. We are fortunate to have a fantastic range of independent shops and producers nearby who we love to support. Our breaks allow time to socialise, make new friends, and chat to the artists.

Our artists support you throughout the day offering one-to-one guidance and tips, as well as encouraging collaboration through sharing of ideas within the group. They will do their best to answer any questions you may have.

The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a supportive and welcoming home environment in the Edinburgh New Town. Spaces are limited so our artists can offer hands-on help and support. All equipment is provided, as are all the materials you will need. Just turn up, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in creating something unique.

Please bring your own DSLR or Bridge camera with you.

£75 per person. The price for the day includes refreshments, and a complimentary glass of beer or wine.

All The Arienas Collective experiences are also available as a private group booking. Please email us for details.

For more information phone 07732 901150 or email lynn@thearienascollective.com

Please note that The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a first-floor open plan reception room and unfortunately we do not have lift access. Please let us know of any skin or food allergies when booking.

While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Switch to Manual: Unleash the creativity of your DSLR camera are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
