About Soundhouse at the Traverse: Philip Clouts Quartet

Soundhouse Residency at the Traverse Theatre

Pianist-composer Philip Clouts’s South African roots have inspired a voyage of musical discovery that has led to a style incorporating wide-ranging inspirations from world music and jazz into a joyous sound.

The exuberant sway of Cuban dance music, the soulful strains of Morocco’s gnawa tradition, the melodic heart of pan-European folksong and the influence of jazz heroes including Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, and Charles Lloyd all meet in Clouts’ very persuasive music.

Joined by rising star saxophonist Samuel Eagles, bassist Alex Keen and drummer Dave Ingamells, Clouts brings his musical journey alive with superb musicianship and infectious energy.
