Venue: Gilded Balloon, Teviot Row House.
The eagerly-awaited Fringe debut from Edinburgh’s own Gareth Waugh – hailed by the BBC as ‘one of the fastest rising stars of Scottish comedy’– is an ambitious hour about lying and honesty. In an era of fake news and alternative facts, how are we meant to separate truth from lies? With two mics, of course!
Waugh splits his enthralling storytelling between two mics: one must be the truth, the other only lies… but can you tell which is which – what is fact and what is fiction? They say comedians use lies to tell the truth, but here all bets are off: Gareth Waugh: Honestly? is the most dishonest debut you’ll see all Fringe.
Waugh makes his solo debut at the Fringe after touring with some of the biggest names in comedy today, including Daniel Sloss, Tom Stade, Katherine Ryan and Tony Law. The two-time Scottish Comedian of the Year finalist and winner of Radio Forth’s Big Comedy Audition has appeared on numerous radio shows including Radio 4’s The Speakeasy, The John Moloney Show, Radio 4 Xtra Stands Up and BBC Radio Scotland’s Breaking the News, The Good, The Bad and The Unexpected and Live at the Stand. Waugh can also be seen on TV, having made an appearance on BBC’s Scot Squad.
‘This is proper stand-up: excellent callbacks, self-deprecating humour, brilliant stories delivered in a dry Scots accent… [he was] definitely the highlight of my evening’
‘Soon to be a big name’
‘This guy has the potential to be a major player in Scottish – if not world – comedy’
